DELAWARE, Ohio - Everyone is invited to a free pre-game tailgate and Ohio Wesleyan University football game Oct. 18 at the Bishop Backers Fall Community Day celebration at Selby Stadium, 45 S. Henry St., Delaware.
The tailgate will begin at noon with City of Delaware police officers and firefighters and Ohio Wesleyan Public Safety officers grilling up free hot dogs and hamburgers. (Vegetarian options also will be available.)
At 1 p.m., the Battling Bishops football team will take on the College of Wooster Fighting Scots.
As part of the Fall Community Day festivities, Ohio Wesleyan will provide cornhole and other yard games, and the fire department will set up its spray house. Its Safety Pup and OWU's Battling Bishop mascots also will be on hand for the celebration, along with the university's Marching Bishops.
Admission is free, but attendees are invited to make donations and participate in a 50/50 raffle to support the Delaware Speech and Hearing Center, which has locations in Delaware and Powell. The Delaware Speech and Hearing Center is a nonprofit clinic providing personalized hearing, occupational therapy, and speech/language treatment and education to help people communicate their best so they can live their best.
Prior to the Oct. 18 football game, the Delaware Speech and Hearing Center will host its annual "Walk for Communication" event beginning at 10 a.m. and stepping off from Ohio Wesleyan's JAYwalk. Participants will gather in front of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. The event includes local vendors, activities for children, raffle prizes, and a 1.5-mile walk through downtown Delaware. The walk will end just in time for participants to enjoy the free tailgate and football game at Selby Stadium. OWU's Delta Zeta sorority will help check in participants for the event. During the regular season, admission for ticketed OWU athletics events is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens, non-OWU students, and children 12 and over. Admission is free for Ohio Wesleyan students with a valid university ID. All-sports season passes also are available for $50 per pass through the OWU Athletics Department.
