House Passes Congressman Begich Bills Advancing Alaska Priorities

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Dec. 16, 2025 - The U.S. House of Representatives passed three bills this week introduced by Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK) that advance critical priorities for Alaska. The legislation includes H.R. 2815, the Cape Fox Land Entitlement Finalization Act of 2025; H.R. 3176, reauthorizing the National Volcano Early Warning and Monitoring System; and H.R. 3620, the Southcentral Foundation Land Transfer Act of 2025.

"I'm proud to see the House move forward with these important pieces of legislation for Alaska and our communities," said Congressman Begich. "Together, these bills honor long-standing commitments to Alaskans, enhance mental health services, and protect our infrastructure and air travel by strengthening vital warning systems for Alaska's active volcanos. I want to thank my friends on the House Natural Resources Committee for their diligent work to ensure Alaska's priorities are heard and addressed in the legislative process."

BACKGROUND:

H.R. 3176 reauthorizes the National Volcano Early Warning and Monitoring System (NVEWS), which monitors the nation's most hazardous volcanoes. Alaska is home to more than half of the United States' active volcanoes, making early warning and monitoring essential to protecting lives, infrastructure, and commerce.

H.R. 2815, the Cape Fox Land Entitlement Finalization Act of 2025, as amended, conveys approximately 180 acres of land to the Cape Fox Corporation, bringing long-awaited closure to outstanding Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act land entitlements. The bill streamlines land access and management, enabling new power production capacity and supporting economic development in Southeast Alaska.

H.R. 3620, the Southcentral Foundation Land Transfer Act of 2025, transfers approximately 3.4 acres of federal land and the existing Quyana Clubhouse facility in Anchorage to Southcentral Foundation (SCF). By conveying both the land and the facility, the legislation allows SCF to make long-needed upgrades and improvements to the Quyana Clubhouse. This transfer will enable SCF to expand mental health, health care, and social services and better meet the growing needs of the community.

All three bills now move to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.

Congressman Begich now has a total of 10 bills passed out of the House during his first year in Congress.
