Grassley Welcomes $34 Million in Federal Funding to Support Iowa Communities

WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) welcomed an announcement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that Iowa will receive $34 million in federal funding to benefit Iowans in Polk, Linn, Tama, Clay and Sioux counties.

"These grants are welcome news for communities across Iowa who are rebuilding from severe storms. This funding, including over $25 million to Cornell College, will help Iowans rebuild stronger than ever," Grassley said. "In the Senate, I'll keep advocating for our state to ensure Iowans get the support they need."

Details on the FEMA awards follow:

• Cornell College - King Chapel Emergency Stabilization: $25,624,229.79 to fund emergency protective measures as a result of the 2020 derecho that created an immediate threat to property and to public health and safety.
• Spencer Community School District: $3,156,774.85 to fund building repairs, including repairs to Johnson Elementary School following severe storms that left the building submerged in two to four feet of water for multiple days.
• City of Spencer: $2,319,347.17 to repair several city parks and 17 wastewater lift stations throughout Spencer severely damaged by severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• City of Rock Valley: $1,993,356.75 to repair damage to the library after severe storms caused mass flooding. The rising waters led to extensive damage to the library's infrastructure and inventory, submerging the children's section and the archival storage rooms.
• Polk County Conservation Board: $378,150.00 to fund the repair or replacement of ditches, culverts and additional items as a result of severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.
• Rock Valley First Reformed Church: $370,157.49 to fund exterior and interior building repairs as a result of severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Sioux County Conservation Board: $164,086.56 to fund the repair or replacement of park buildings, roads, culverts and trails due to severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds and tornadoes.
• Tama County Highway Department: $104,587.95 to fund costs related to the management of public assistance grants as a result of severe storms, tornadoes and flooding.
