OBL Invites Members to Learn More About BankChain Alliance and the Future of Banking

The Ohio Bankers League invites members to join an upcoming webinar to learn more about BankChain Alliance, an industry-led initiative designed to ensure banks remain at the forefront of financial innovation and the rapidly evolving payments landscape.

The OBL has joined forces with state bankers associations across the country to help develop a new banking network that is designed by banks, owned by the banking industry, and governed by the institutions that use it. The Alliance now brings together associations representing banks in 42 states, with a shared goal of building modern financial infrastructure that benefits institutions of all sizes.

As stablecoins, digital assets, and new payment technologies continue to reshape financial services, the banking industry faces an important choice: rely on technology and payment networks controlled by outside companies or work together to build infrastructure that banks themselves own and influence.

BankChain Alliance is pursuing the latter approach. The initiative is developing a shared blockchain-based network intended to support emerging capabilities such as tokenized deposits, programmable payments, automated settlement, and other innovative financial services. Importantly, the project seeks to preserve the traditional banking relationship and keep deposits supporting lending in local communities.

During this webinar, OBL members will hear directly about the vision behind BankChain Alliance, the progress made to date, the anticipated development timeline, and opportunities for Ohio banks to become involved. The discussion will also explore how the network could help community banks compete in an increasingly digital financial marketplace without having to independently develop costly new technology.

With the Alliance targeting a 2027 network launch, this is an important opportunity for Ohio bankers to learn about the initiative, ask questions, and understand how their institutions can help shape the future of banking.
