Day One of the 2025 Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos commenced with a number of high-level engagements for Thailand that both underscore and advance the key priorities of the Thai Government. From bilateral meetings with governments and heads of international organizations to discussions on the direction of regional economic growth to private sector appointments, the Thai delegation led by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra advanced proactive economic diplomacy to open the door to strengthening and expanding new opportunities for collaboration at the WEF AM25.
On the bilateral front, H.E. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs met with his counterpart H.E. Jan Lipavský, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, to advance bilateral relations into new areas of investment and collaboration, education and defence technology, among others. Speaking at the ASEAN Roundtable on "ASEAN's Journey Towards Unity" with other high-level participants from other ASEAN countries, the Secretary-Generals of ASEAN, the GCC and the OECD as well as representatives of various international organizations, the Minister underlined ASEAN's strengths and immense economic potential, and shared with colleagues the clear direction that this diverse regional organization is working towards - a sustainable, innovative and interconnected future. The Minister continued with productive discussions with Ms. Julie Bishop, the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on Myanmar, on efforts in support of a peaceful, stable and unified Myanmar, underlining Thailand's role to assist, in particular with humanitarian needs. Finally, meetings with key private sector partners such as DP World, Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB) and Astra Zeneca concluded Day One of WEF25.
