AMBASSADOR VITUSAGAVULU PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO...
JERUSALEM - His Excellency Jesoni Vitusagavulu formally presented his letters of credence to the President of the State of Israel, His Excellency Isaac Herzog, at the President's Residence in Jerusalem today.
This historic ceremony marks the official commencement of Fiji's first resident mission in Israel.
During the audience, Ambassador Vitusagavulu conveyed the warm greetings and highest regards of the President of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, and the Prime Minister, the Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka.
Ambassador Vitusagavulu also conveyed the best wishes and prayers of the people of Fiji for peace in Israel and the region.
A Milestone in Reciprocity
President Isaac Herzog warmly welcomed Ambassador Vitusagavulu, stating he was "delighted to receive the first resident Ambassador of Fiji."
In a significant diplomatic gesture, President Herzog confirmed that Israel is stepping up efforts to open a resident Israeli Embassy in Fiji in April 2026. This reciprocal move underscores the deepening strategic bond between the two nations and ensures a permanent Israeli presence in the heart of the Blue Pacific.
Strengthening Ties through Peace and Gratitude
Ambassador Vitusagavulu expressed Fiji's deep appreciation for the consistent assistance Israel has provided since 1970, particularly through MASHAV in the fields of agriculture and health.
He also reaffirmed Fiji's commitment to Israel's security and the region.
"Fiji has long played an active role in preserving security in this region. Our peacekeepers have served with distinction on Israel's borders for decades, reflecting our belief that a secure Israel is vital for regional and global stability," the Ambassador noted.
He also indicated that Fiji was seriously considering participating in International Stabilization Force in Gaza in its desire to continue to contribute to peace in Israel and the region.
Harvesting Opportunities
In his remarks, Ambassador Vitusagavulu emphasised that his tenure would be dedicated to "harvesting the vast opportunities" Israel offers. He outlined a strategic focus on:
• Agricultural Innovation: Implementing high-tech irrigation and food security solutions.
• Digital Security: Operationalizing the 2025 Cybersecurity Pact.
• Economic Exchange: Fostering business-to-business ties between the two nations.
The Ambassador indicated that his embassy will be pursuing the development of tourism between the two countries. He said that this could be done initially through charter flights between Nadi and Tel Aviv.
"With the opening of our Embassy here today, and the upcoming opening of Israel's Embassy in Fiji this April, we are building a two-way bridge of innovation and friendship that will serve our people for generations to come," the Ambassador concluded.
