Chandler, Ariz. - Chandler Councilmember Christine Ellis has been reappointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) Human Development Committee, National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials and Women in Municipal Government. She will serve a one-year term on these three committees to provide strategic direction and guidance for the NLC's federal advocacy efforts, share best practices and network with other local leaders.
"I'm grateful to continue the work of lifting people up and opening doors for every family. I have seen how hope grows when communities create access to education and workforce training," said Councilmember Ellis. "I'll bring my local and regional experiences to these national forums to ensure the voices of Chandler are heard as we advocate for policies that benefit our community and create opportunity for every person."
The Human Development Committee's most recent work has focused on social services, combating the opioid epidemic and advocating for workforce investment strategies to support local economies, including career and technical education.
The Women in Municipal Government's work has focused on advancing economic opportunity for women in the workforce and advancing health, wellness and quality of life priorities that uplift communities. The National Black Caucus has advocated for equitable policies for Black communities and expanding leadership development and peer-learning programs through partnerships with the private sector, higher education and civic groups.
Members of the NLC Committees play a key role in shaping policy positions as advocates who help policymakers in Washington D.C. understand the issues and challenges facing local communities.
Councilmember Ellis began serving on the Chandler City Council in January 2021. She is the Vice Chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee and serves on the Arizona Board of Nursing.
Councilmember Ellis also serves on the Executive Board of the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network and was recently appointed to serve as their Vice Chair.
