NRCC releases new digital advertisement targeting Rep. Gabe Vasquez's record

Washington, D.C. - The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has released a new digital advertisement targeting Democrat Gabe Vasquez of New Mexico's Second Congressional District. Both the NRCC and the Republican National Committee (RNC) have announced plans to target Vasquez's reelection bid in hopes of flipping his seat. Today's advertisement release is likely to be followed by many other ads highlighting Vasquez's radical voting record and far-left rhetoric.

"Rep. Vasquez has made it clear that he stands with the radical left wing of his party, but the problem is that his district is NOT radical nor left-wing," said Chairwoman Barela. "NM-2 is a highly competitive swing district with tens of thousands of voters who care deeply about border security and other conservative issues. Gabe Vasquez reminds us every day that he doesn't stand with the majority of his constituents on some of the most common-sense issues in our politics, and he makes no effort to hide that."

Rep. Vasquez will face challengers in both the primary election and, assuming he wins, the general election this year. Because of his horrific voting record, he is widely considered a vulnerable Democrat ahead of the 2026 midterms. He voted "no" on important legislation that included nearly $2 million in earmarked federal projects for southern New Mexico. These projects included improvements to Mesilla's Town Hall and almost $1 million for workforce training in Bayard, New Mexico. Not only did he proudly vote against the legislation, but he later took credit for it after it passed.

In late 2025, he carelessly allowed our military, federal workers, and the American people to suffer by keeping the government closed for 42 days and even expressing disappointment when the government finally reopened. Vasquez has repeatedly criticized the Trump Administration for cracking down on drug traffickers who smuggle deadly narcotics into our country - drugs that end up killing thousands of Americans, including many New Mexicans.

In an announcement today by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Trump Administration outlined plans to build a 100-plus-mile border barrier system in southern New Mexico, covering Luna and Hidalgo counties. Despite border security being a key issue for a significant percentage of his constituents, Gabe Vasquez sharply condemned the project. Meanwhile, the vast majority of Democrats, including Vasquez, have demonized our ICE officers for removing criminal aliens from our streets.

It has long been said that the job of a member of Congress is to "vote their district," and the district Rep. Gabe Vasquez represents does not support many of his stances on public policy. The reality is that, based on his voting record, Gabe Vasquez is more suited to represent San Francisco or Portland than NM-2. The people of southern New Mexico deserve better representation than what he has given them.
