NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (January 30, 2026) - One of the City's most hazardous intersections is slated for a major safety overhaul following the award of $500,000 in federal Community Project Funding.
The grant will target the intersection of Jersey and Van Dyke avenues, a busy corridor that includes industrial complexes, professional offices, and the New Brunswick Public School District's Pathways Campus.
City data shows that more than 60 crashes occurred at this specific location between 2019 and 2023.
To address these safety concerns, the upcoming upgrades will include installing new LED traffic signals, high-visibility signage, and enhanced pavement markings. The project also prioritizes accessibility, with plans for new sidewalks and curb ramps that comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
"We are pleased to see this important investment in New Brunswick's traffic and pedestrian safety move forward," Mayor Jim Cahill said. "This funding will help transform one of our most heavily traveled intersections with safer walkways, modern signals, and improved accessibility for all residents and visitors."
