WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Congressman Pat Harrigan (NC-10) voted to pass the TAKE IT DOWN Act, having previously cosponsored the House companion bill. This critical legislation cracks down on the spread of non consensual intimate images and deep fake pornography, holding bad actors accountable and giving victims a clear path to seek justice.
"Every American deserves to have their privacy protected and their dignity respected. If you exploit someone online, you should expect to be held accountable," said Congressman Harrigan. "We are restoring basic decency, enforcing the law, and making it clear that predators have no safe haven."
The TAKE IT DOWN Act makes it a federal crime to knowingly distribute non consensual intimate images or AI-generated deep fakes without permission. It empowers victims with new legal tools and requires platforms to swiftly remove such content when flagged, restoring dignity and control to those targeted by these crimes.
Congressman Harrigan remains committed to defending personal freedom, securing privacy rights, and ensuring the internet is not a free-for-all for criminals and predators. He urges the Senate to act quickly to send this important bill to President Trump's desk.
