Discussion on Financial Sector Development with the Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

On October 27, 2026, the Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Firdavs Tolibzoda, met with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by the EBRD Vice President Mr. Matteo Patrone. During the meeting, the parties discussed expanding bilateral cooperation, strengthening the financial and banking system, improving the investment climate, and supporting the private sector.

Special attention was given to improving the insurance system, enhancing the financial literacy of the population, developing sustainable finance, and supporting green projects. Furthermore, the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles within the operations of financial institutions was also considered.

The parties also discussed the development of risk-sharing mechanisms as a means to expand lending and improve access to long-term financing for entrepreneurs, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It was emphasized that the use of such mechanisms could facilitate the implementation of investment projects, support domestic production, and enhance the country's productive capacity.

During the meeting, talks also covered strengthening internal control, improving risk management systems, and ensuring compliance with international requirements.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to continue constructive dialogue and expand mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at strengthening the stability of the financial system, attracting investment, and fostering the sustainable development of Tajikistan's economy.
