Barry Peters Recognized for Decades of Contributions to Music Education, Youth Development, and the Performing Arts
(BINGHAMTON, NY) - The Friends of the Forum celebrated Barry Peters as the newest inductee to the Wall of Stars at the Broome County Forum Theatre. Peters is being recognized for his decades-long impact on music education, youth development, and the performing arts throughout the Greater Binghamton community and across New York State.
A longtime educator, conductor, and performer, Peters taught music for more than 30 years, including time in the Union-Endicott School District, before continuing his work as an adjunct faculty member at Ithaca College following his retirement from public education. Throughout his career, he directed award-winning bands and mentored generations of student musicians, many of whom continued in music professionally.
Since 1997, Peters has served as conductor of the Binghamton Youth Symphony, helping shape one of the region's premier youth music organizations through performances, educational opportunities, and community engagement. Under his leadership, the orchestra has performed throughout the region and beyond, while also providing musical education experiences for thousands of young people.
In addition to his work in education, Peters has remained an active performer and guest conductor, serving with numerous ensembles throughout the Southern Tier and New York State while contributing to music education organizations, adjudication, and mentorship programs.
The Wall of Fame, located in the lobby of the Forum Theatre, recognizes local individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the arts and entertainment community.
Peters' star will be displayed in the Forum Theatre lobby alongside other notable local inductees.
