The five-star award follows a comprehensive and robust audit including documentation reviews, interviews with senior management, colleagues and stakeholders, and observing operations across Mitie sites in sectors including defence systems, aviation, waste management, healthcare, retail and security. The audit was then measured against key health and safety management best practice indicators including leadership and commitment, stakeholder engagement, risk management, organisational Occupational Health and Safety culture, and continual improvement.
Peter Dickinson, Chief Legal Officer, Mitie, said: "We are proud to have been awarded five stars by the British Safety Council for our health and safety practices. This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment by colleagues in making Mitie's health and safety standards the benchmark for best practice in the industry and beyond. Through a culture where safety and wellbeing are prioritised, our goal is simple; zero harm to our colleagues, our customers, and to the members of the public passing through the facilities we take care of."
Mike Robinson, CEO British Safety Council, said: "The award of a five-star grading following our occupational best practice Health and Safety Audit is an outstanding achievement and is reflective of a proactive organisation which is committed to continual improvement in its health and safety arrangements and managing risks to workers' health, safety and wellbeing. Mitie should be very proud of this achievement."
