Muskingum University is hosting a Sororii residency, which will include a concert on April 14 at 7 p.m. in the University's Brown Chapel. The concert is free and open to the community.
Sororii is a Cleveland based female-led duo featuring Afro-Colombian cellist Carolina Borja, and bassoonist Arleigh Savage. Formed in 2021 at the height of the pandemic, their original music blends warm, melodic bassoon lines, plucked and strummed cello, and voice, creating instrumental grooves with underlying world, Latin, and afro beats. Together they seek to reclaim sisterhood and explore feminine voices across cultures.
Sororii is also providing a sound technology workshop and a session on their musical journey for Muskingum students.
"We are excited to have Sororii on campus next week to give our students the opportunity to hear the unique sounds of their music and to hear about their life experiences," said Associate Professor of Music Dr. David Turrill. "At the height of the pandemic, they created a terrific community and global arts experience that the world really needed."
The residency is being funded by Muskingum's Special Events Committee, the Gender Studies Program, Office of Cultural Engagement and Inclusion, Music Department, Communication, Media, and Theatre Department, and the Arts and Humanities Division.
