Lt. Governor Burt Jones Prioritizes Georgia Election Transparency and Accountability

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, January 14, 2026

ATLANTA |Today, Lt. Governor Burt Jones called on the Secretary of State to attend the Georgia Senate Ethics Committee meeting on Thursday, January 22nd at 4:00pm to answer for repeated failures in protecting the integrity of Georgia's elections.

"Fulton County has now admitted to the State Election Board that 315,000 ballots were not properly signed by poll workers and then were wrongly certified. The Secretary of State must answer for this latest breakdown, and his silence is unacceptable," said Lt. Governor Burt Jones. "I call on the Secretary to appear before the Georgia Senate Ethics Committee to testify on how and why state regulations were not followed, why he then certified the election, and what he is personally doing to ensure failures like this never happen again. As Lt. Governor, I will continue to lead the Senate's efforts to protect the integrity of Georgia's elections and provide much needed oversight of those who run them. I will not allow the Secretary and his allies in the press to let him escape accountability by downplaying this utter failure as a mere 'clerical error.'"

Earlier this week, Senator Randy Robertson (R - Cataula) also filed a resolution urging the Secretary of State to comply with multiple requests by the U.S. Department of Justice to securely produce Georgia's complete voter roll, in compliance with Georgia's obligations under the National Voter Registration Act, the Help America Vote Act, and the Civil Rights Act of 1960. That legislation urges the Secretary, who has now been sued by the DOJ, to fully cooperate with the efforts of President Donald Trump to ensure that elections are free, fair, and honest in line with his March 2025 executive order.

"No elected official in this state is exempt from participating in any and all civil, criminal, or administrative investigation by any law enforcement agency within these United States, to include our Secretary of State," said Senator Randy Robertson (R - Cataula). "This resolution encourages our Secretary of State to fully cooperate with any legal requests or subpoenas offered by the US Department of Justice as they investigate possible violations of federal law. My entire career has been focused on upholding the rule of law and protecting the civil rights of all Georgians. This urging resolution is a continuation of that mission."
