At Southeast Missouri State University, students will gain firsthand insight into the judicial system when alumna Lisa Page '88, judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, returns to campus for a Judicial Learning Presentation on April 8.
Judge Page will present "How Judicial Selection is Different Than Picking a Legislator," offering insight into how judges are selected and how that process differs from the election of legislative officials. The event is part of the Judicial Learning Center project, which promotes public understanding of the judicial system through educational outreach and engagement.
This presentation gives students a chance to hear directly from a sitting judge and ask questions about the judicial process. Welcoming alumni like Page back to campus also highlights the real-world paths available to SEMO graduates.
Page, a lifelong resident of Festus, Missouri, began her academic journey at SEMO, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in political science with minors in Spanish, economics and criminal justice in 1988. She went on to graduate from Saint Louis University School of Law before practicing law in Jefferson County for eight years.
In 2005, Page was appointed family court commissioner, and in 2006, she was elected the first female circuit judge in Jefferson County. She later served nine years as administrative judge of the family court. Page was appointed to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District in December 2015 and served as chief judge from 2018 to 2019.
The presentation is in the University Center Ballroom A at noon and is free and open to the public. Students, faculty, staff and the campus community are encouraged to attend.
