Representative Mannion Presents Military Medals to Utica Veteran Frank J. Filippelli, Jr.

UTICA, NY - Representative John W. Mannion (NY-22) today presented long-overdue military honors to Utica resident Frank J. Filippelli, Jr., a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War. Filippelli, a Disabled American Veteran, was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal in recognition of his service, sacrifice, and bravery in combat.
These medals, earned in 1969, had never been formally received.
Representative John W. Mannion said, "Frank Filippelli earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star through extraordinary bravery and sacrifice during the Vietnam War and after many years these important medals are now with him and his family. It is my privilege to present him with these honors and to recognize his service - and the service of every American veteran."
The Purple Heart is among the nation's oldest military decorations, established by George Washington in 1782 and awarded to those wounded or killed in action. The Bronze Star Medal recognizes heroic or meritorious achievement in combat operations. These awards were verified by the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, which confirmed Filippelli's faithful and dedicated service to the nation.
Frank Filippelli was joined by family members for the presentation, including his nephew Frank Sardina, Sardina's wife Renae, and their sons Thomas and Adam.
Supporting veterans and their families is a priority for Representative Mannion, including helping constituents secure military records, medals, and benefits they have earned. If any resident of NY-22 needs assistance obtaining military service records or replacing medals and decorations, please contact Representative Mannion's office at (315) 732-0713 or visit mannion.house.gov.
