The North Face Introduces the Universal Collection: Inclusive Outdoor Gear for All Explorers

Co-created with adaptive athletes and the adaptive sports community, the new camping and outdoor equipment line removes common barriers through intuitive design.

The North Face launches its Universal Collection - an all-new offering of camping and outdoor equipment and accessories - forged from insights from the adaptive and parasports community, catering to all explorers. By taking a radically inclusive design approach, this collection leads the industry towards more inclusive gear.

"The hallmarks of great design should provide a positive user experience from start to finish for all users," says Senior Technical Equipment Designer Luke Matthews. "We kept our Athlete Tested, Expedition Proven promise with this collection by working with our adaptive athletes, Vasu Sojitra and Maureen Beck. Thanks to their collaboration and insight, we built a collection that removes barriers through intuitive design elements, creating an inclusive experience for everyone."

Launching the Universal Collection sets a new standard for accessibility to high-quality outdoor equipment through ease of use and affordability. Informed by specific insights from the adaptive community with a solution-oriented design, the resulting products prioritize safety and confidence, regardless of skill level. Beyond intuitive features for ease of use and functionality, the collection is also cost approachable, allowing more user groups the opportunity to participate in outdoor recreation with reliable performance gear.

This innovative collection includes a zipperless sleeping bag, a tent that is more user-friendly, a free-standing day pack, a convertible brimmer hat and interchangeable camp slippers. Intuitive design cues and tactile touchpoints are found throughout the collection to make functionality easier.

Universal Wawona 3 Tent (MSRP $435):

  • Simplified setup - Three equal-length poles, highly visible pole sleeves, easy-catch pole mounts, and a built-in rain fly make it easy to set up in the dark or for the visually impaired
  • Streamlined access - Oversized loops on zipper pulls make closures throughout easier to use, while a larger entryway with a lower threshold can accommodate mobility devices
  • Breezy Breakdown - An oversized storage bag makes breakdown and packing up simple

Universal One Bag (MSRP $270-280):

  • Zipperless design - Eliminating zippers addresses the unique needs of campers from all ability levels. Two magnetic FIDLOCK® closures provide a secure, zipper-free sleeping experience
  • Universal temperature range - Two insulated "wings" provide multiple layers for a multitude of temperature ranges for better temperature regulation and versatility
  • Tactile interface - Rubberized touchpoints and oversized loops on draw cords make adjustments easier, while a pad sleeve keeps you comfortable in your sleeping bag for a restful evening

Universal 20 Daypack (MSRP $140):

  • Versatile carry - A focus on easy, perceptible use and adaptable carry methods is achieved through an adaptive carry system that can fit a wide range of body types and be at home on a wheelchair, all the same
  • Easy access - The main compartment eliminates a zipper and uses a magnetic FIDLOCK® closure for quick, simple access, while oversized pulls and grab handles, and the ability to stand upright on the ground, provide ease of use for any user
  • Intentional cues - Strategically placed materials, trims, and color accents offer cues for those with visual impairments

Universal Basecamp Mules (MSRP $65):

  • Interchangeable design - A symmetrical construction means these slippers aren't designated for left or right feet, allowing them to be worn on either foot for a universal, adaptable fit across all foot shapes.
  • Easy use - Oversized loop pulls at the top and heel make them easy to slip on and off, even in low light or for users with limited visibility.
  • Versatile function - A rubberized, grippy outsole delivers stable traction on uneven surfaces, while synthetic insulation helps retain warmth even when wet.

Universal Horizon Convertible Brimmer (MSRP $60):

  • Easy adjustment - The breathable Universal Horizon Convertible Brimmer can be adjusted with one hand and provides sun protection.
  • Multi-benefit features - Back panel and sunshield are made with LIGHTRANGE™, a fabric-level finish that combines three benefits: UPF protection, anti-odor technology, and moisture management.
  • Comfort meets function - The branded sweatband features FLASHDRY PRO™ materials that actively pull moisture away from the body to help keep you feeling dry and comfortable during activity.

"By launching the Universal Collection, The North Face is setting a new standard for accessibility in outdoor gear. This isn't just a product launch-it's a call to action for the entire industry to rethink how they design for all users." - Vasu Sojitra, The North Face Athlete (adaptive) "This is the first time we're seeing accessibility innovations starting with the adaptive community and flowing up to everyone else, rather than the other way around. The Universal Collection is proving that designing for accessibility just makes better gear for everyone." Maureen Beck, The North Face Athlete (adaptive).

The Universal Collection is available at The North Face retail locations, through select retail partners, and at thenorthface.com.
