SCO Secretary General Takes Part in the Outreach/BRICS+ Leaders' Meeting
On 24 October 2024, Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Zhang Ming took part in the outreach/BRICS+ leaders meeting held as part of the BRICS Summit event programme in Kazan, at the invitation of the Russian side, which chairs BRICS.

The meeting materials included the Secretary General's address, which outlined assessments of the current international and regional situation. Zhang Ming informed the meeting participants about the SCO's efforts to promote cooperation in politics and security, as well as economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation. It was stressed that the SCO and BRICS have similar approaches to these issues, so it is necessary to strengthen coordination between the two associations in order to maintain stability, promote development and prosperity, and strengthen friendship between nations. Zhang Ming noted that the SCO and BRICS made a significant contribution to ensuring sustainable international and regional security.The theme of the leaders' meeting in the outreach/BRICS+ format was "BRICS and the Global South: Building a Better World Together." The event was attended by the leaders of the BRICS countries and more than 30 other interested states, among which members of the SCO family, as well as representatives of international organisations, were widely represented.

Secretary-General Zhang Ming gave an interview to leading media outlets in Russia, China and a number of other countries on the sidelines of the summit, answering questions about the current state and prospects of cooperation between the SCO and BRICS, as well as ways to further develop the SCO.
