AJC Los Angeles is grateful for the work of the FBI, U.S. Department of Justice, and other law enforcement agencies that led to today's arrest of four people and the thwarting of a plot to bomb multiple locations in the Los Angeles area. This coordinated effort is one that should be modeled across the nation.
The news of this horrific attempted terror attack comes at a time of increased ideological and political violence - including the attack on a Jewish family's home in Redlands, California, and the mass murder of 15 individuals at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, at a Hanukkah celebration.
There is a deeply alarming pattern here. These are not isolated events. They point to the dangerous convergence of extremist ideology, online incitement, and deepening polarization.
"What we are seeing is the result of political extremism becoming mainstream in our society," said Ron Galperin, Interim Director, AJC Los Angeles. "The Jewish community knows all too well that hate speech and harmful rhetoric have violent repercussions. Where radical ideology persists, violence inevitably follows."
American Jewish Committee (AJC) will continue to work with elected officials, institutions, and civil society to respond with moral clarity and consistency and confront antisemitism and extremism in all its forms.
