Applications Open for Next Cohort of Emerging Leaders Council

Young people interested in developing leadership skills, building a strong professional network, learning directly from local leaders, and making a difference in Knoxville are invited to apply for the next cohort of Mayor Indya Kincannon's Emerging Leaders Council.

Applications are now open for Knoxville youth ages 18-24 who will be eligible to vote in Knoxville elections by Sept. 1, 2026. Applications are due Monday, Aug. 17, 2026.

The nine-week leadership development program connects Knoxville youth with local leaders who discuss and share their professional and personal experiences as government employees, elected officials, and community leaders.

"Many young people want to be involved in their community but don't know where to start or how to plug in," says Emily Norris, the City's Youth Engagement Coordinator. "This program offers a unique opportunity for youth to gain real-world leadership experience, build professional networking skills, and learn about the systems behind local government."

Participants meet Tuesday evenings Sept. 8 - Dec. 1, 2026, for presentations and discussions with guest speakers from the community about civic engagement, elected office, City Council and other pertinent topics.
