Growing up my family owned a custom harvesting business that followed the wheat harvest from Texas up to Montana. This was the initial foundation of the grain industry. Upon completion of college at West Texas A&M University, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I attended the career fair and Bunge (formally Gavilon/Viterra) at the time, and they scooped me up into their operations program. I transitioned from Operations to Safety in 2023 and I really enjoy my role as support for our locations. My main goal in my role is to be a resource and support the team anyway that I can.
The network the organization has helped build for me is tremendous. The world seems very big, but in the small sector of the grain industry, it is very interconnected. After being in the industry for a few years, it is amazing the number of contacts and support I gained just by being present and taking part in the events. It's been awesome to be a part of everything from local chapter events to the onsite expos showcasing new technology and ideas to create a more efficient and safe working environment for all our plants.
The service that is provided to the agriculture industry is the best part. Agriculture is the foundation of my life. Being a farmer/rancher myself, it is awesome to see the growth and development of the industry to not only serve the farmers but the entire world providing them with food, feed, fuel and fiber.
The drive to keep agriculture the forefront of daily life has been my biggest influence on my career. Agriculture is not just a career for me it is a way of life that I am involved in daily. Agriculture is one foundation this country is built on, and I hope to continue to be just a small spoke in the wheel to keep moving forward. One aspect that motivates me every day is sending all our team members home to their loved ones in the same state they showed up to work in (and maybe even a little better)!
One of the biggest trends I am personally seeing is that safety is the top priority. The industry as a whole has grown from past incidents and taken action to correct and prevent similar occurrences in the future. Most developers behind the new products and technologies in the industry have a story to tell, which is often rooted in real-world incidents that inspired the solutions they now promote.
