European Parliament confirms Thomas Gstädtner as Executive Director of the EBA

​Following a plenary vote in the European Parliament, Thomas Gstädtner has been confirmed as the new Executive Director of the European Banking Authority (EBA). Thomas Gstädtner, who will serve a five-year renewable term, was selected by the EBA Board of Supervisors from a shortlist of candidates following an open selection procedure.

​Upon news of his confirmation by the European Parliament, Thomas Gstädtner said:

​"I am honoured to have been confirmed by the European Parliament as the new Executive Director of the EBA. I look forward to working with the Chair, the Board of Supervisors, staff and stakeholders across Europe to build on the Authority's strong foundations and support its future development. Together, we will continue to promote a resilient, innovative and well-integrated European financial sector."

​François-Louis Michaud, Chair of the EBA, congratulated Thomas Gstädtner on his appointment:

​"I warmly congratulate Thomas Gstädtner on his confirmation as Executive Director of the EBA and wish him every success in his new role. His experience and leadership will be key assets as the Authority continues to evolve and adapt to a rapidly changing financial landscape. I look forward to working closely with Thomas to ensure the EBA remains an effective, trusted and forward-looking European Authority."

​Note to editors

​The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the Authority. The Executive Director serves a five-year term and may be extended once.

​Thomas Gstädtner will take up his duties in the next few weeks.

​Thomas Gstädtner has extensive experience in European banking supervision and financial regulation, having held senior positions in the European supervisory framework, where he contributed to prudential supervision, financial stability and regulatory policy initiatives at the European level.​
