Sen. Cruz Pushes Amendment Commending Operation Midnight Hammer

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) introduced an amendment to U.S. Senate Joint Resolution 59 commending President Trump, the United States Armed Forces, and all those involved in Operation Midnight Hammer, which destroyed Iran's nuclear weapons program.

Sen. Cruz said, "The Senate routinely passes this language to applaud presidents for operations like these, which make all Americans immeasurably safer. We came together to congratulate President Obama for liquidating Osama bin Laden, and the Senate voted to applaud President Trump for doing the same to Soleimani. The same should be done regarding Operation Midnight Hammer, which eliminated the existential threat to America posed by a nuclear-armed Iran."

BACKGROUND

In 2020 the Senate passed language authored by Senator Cruz honoring members of the military and intelligence community, and President Trump, for carrying out the successful mission that killed Qasem Soleimani, who was the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force (IRGC-QF) and a designated terrorist.
