Abstract

Solar photovoltaic (PV) demand continues to increase following global decarbonization agendas and efforts towards reducing society's reliance on fossil fuels. In the United States (U.S.) most end-of-use (EoU) PVs end up in landfills owing to the lack of effective EoU infrastructure. This paper develops an integrated System Dynamics model that tracks the quantities of EoU Silicon-PVs over decades and applies the principles of Circular Economy (CE) to quantitatively evaluate environmental and economic implications of different Re-X strategies in isolation and in combination with one another. The model, a potential decision-making tool can be used to maximize EoU PVs value.
