LOS ANGELES - California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials announced the apprehension of an incarcerated person who walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program in Los Angeles County on Aug. 16, 2026.
On Sept. 9, 2026, DeJohn W. Snell, 28, was apprehended at approximately 11:15 a.m. EDT following a traffic stop in Virginia by U.S. Marshals, with leads from CDCR's Office of Correctional Safety. He was booked into the Peninsula Regional Jail in Williamsburg, Va., on an escape warrant, and will be turned over to CDCR custody to be rehoused at a CDCR institution. His case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for possible escape charges.
Snell was most recently received from Los Angeles County on Sept. 30, 2025. He was sentenced to six years for carjacking and second-degree robbery.
Since 1977, 99 percent of the incarcerated people who have escaped or walked away from an adult institution, camp, in-state contract bed, or community rehabilitative program placement have been apprehended.
