Columbia's Make Music Day registration opens May 1

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs is once again coordinating the annual Make Music Day, a free celebration of music around the world, on June 21.

The community is invited to sign up as a performer or a venue, with the deadline to register as June 16. A matchmaking system will connect musicians and venues. After creating an account, venues and musicians can browse each other's profiles and then request a booking.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Day is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician is welcome - young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion. Venues can be outdoor spaces, sidewalks, backyards, storefronts, small shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, cultural institutions, community gardens - even your own porch, stoop, driveway, or lawn. Make Music Day originally began in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique. Now it is held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

All events will be free and open to the public. Visit Columbia's Make Music Day website at makemusicday.org/columbiamo for more information and to register as a participant.
