Reinstallation of Fox Point Hurricane Barrier Gates

The City of Providence will begin reinstalling the hurricane barrier street gates on Allens Avenue and at the Manchester Street Power Station starting the week of May 12, 2025, following extensive off-site repairs. This work is essential to strengthen the city's coastal storm and hurricane resilience.

Traffic Impacts on Allens Avenue:

  • One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained near the gates from May 12 to June 13, 2025 (weekdays only).
  • A temporary detour may occur between May 27 and June 6, rerouting traffic between Eddy Street and Blackstone Street. Expect delays and plan alternate routes when possible.

No traffic impacts are expected near the Manchester Street Power Station.

The gates are expected to be fully operational by late May, with site demobilization by mid-June. In case of emergency, temporary barrier systems will be available on-site.

We appreciate your patience during this important project. Updates will be shared via Providence 311 and city communication channels.
