WORKING VISIT OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL TO MALAYSIA 25–28 OCTOBER 2025

WORKING VISIT OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL TO MALAYSIA

25-28 OCTOBER 2025

At the invitation of Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, President of the European Council Antonio Costa will undertake a working visit to Malaysia from 25 to 28 October 2025, and participate at the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, as Guest of the Chair.

This marks President Costa's first visit to Malaysia since assuming office in December 2024.

On 26 October 2025, President Costa will attend the Opening Ceremony of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, as well as the Plenary Session of the 47th ASEAN Summit, where he will deliver his remarks on "The Future Direction of ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations".

On the same day, the Prime Minister and President Costa will hold a bilateral meeting, where discussions are expected to focus on strengthening Malaysia-EU relations, ASEAN-EU dialogue relations as well as regional and international issues. Later that evening, President Costa is invited to attend the Gala Dinner hosted by the Prime Minister and his spouse, Dato' Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

In 2024, total trade between Malaysia and the EU amounted to RM218.91 billion, an increase of 5.9 per cent from the previous year. This positive momentum continued into the first eight months of 2025, with total trade reaching RM145.60 billion.

The visit underscores the enduring and strategic nature of Malaysia-EU relations, founded on trust, shared prosperity, and a joint commitment to a stable, rules-based, and sustainable global order.
