USDA Celebrates Completion of Amity Oregon Water Project

(Portland, Ore., Aug 10, 2026) - U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Oregon State Director Jim Carmack together with the city of Amity celebrated the completion of the city's new water treatment system, a project which began in 2019.

"USDA celebrates alongside the City of Amity as they reflect on the years of hard work to secure a reliable water future," said Carmack. "By investing in modern infrastructure and strengthening the city's ability to meet growing demand, we are helping ensure that families, businesses, and community institutions have access to safe, dependable water year round."

Over seven years, USDA Rural Development has invested $6,766,611 in loan and grant to help the city make significant water system improvements. Among these improvements, the city relocated its water intake along the South Yamhill River, installed new pumps and other infrastructure, and renovated the water treatment facility to ensure enough water is produced to meet future demand. These upgrades will help the city continue to receive the water it needs through all seasons, including dry summer months.

"After supporting this project over its years of development, I'm so pleased for the community of Amity as a whole to see it reach completion," said USDA Rural Development Oregon Community Programs Specialist Holly Halligan. "This project is a reflection of the determination and problem-solving inherent to rural Oregon."
