GDOT preparing to resume brining east-central Ga. routes

[Link]
Augusta, Ga. - Georgia Department of Transportation crews are preparing to resume brine operations in District 2 (east-central Georgia) on Sunday night.

Georgia DOT is monitoring a line of precipitation that began impacting the district on Sunday afternoon. Due to the timing of this precipitation, it is unlikely that roads will dry overnight, meaning black ice is possible in some areas. To lower probabilities of refreezing, Georgia DOT crews will resume brine operations after the precipitation clears the area.

Crews will treat critical and high priority routes, primarily focusing on areas along and north of Interstate 20. Trucks must travel 40 mph to properly apply the treatment. Please pay attention and stay back at least 100 feet.

As of 3 p.m. Sunday, all roads in the district remain passable. Throughout the day, crews have been applying salt to some locations in Morgan, Oglethorpe, Wilkes, and Lincoln counties.

Crews are staffed around the clock until the threat is over. All district maintenance personnel are working 12-hour shifts.

Georgia DOT continues to monitor road and weather conditions. Our plans are based on current weather reports and are subject to change.
