Warren Statement on New Reporting about CFTC Examination of Suspicious Oil Trades Related to Trump Truth Social Post

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, released the following statement on reports that Mel Gunewardena, senior adviser to Trump's Chairman of the CFTC Michael Selig, "intervened" in the examination of suspicious trades made minutes before Trump announced that he was postponing strikes on Iranian energy facilities on his Truth Social platform in March:

"It is disturbing that a senior advisor to Chairman Selig may have intervened in efforts by agency career staff to do their jobs and investigate potentially billions of dollars worth of insider trading. Chairman Selig and Mr. Gunewardena should answer to Congress about the latest status of the agency's investigations and potential enforcement actions to stop insiders from profiting off of the President's war with Iran."
