Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.) released a statement on the reported agreement struck between President Trump and the Iranian government toward a permanent end to the war.
"This war has been costly and misguided from the beginning. It's put American servicemembers in harm's way, costing over a dozen people their lives. It's put an unstable region at risk of further instability, compromising the safety and security of our allies. It's also rattled our fragile economy. If this administration spent a fraction of what it's spent on this war to address the high cost of living that many Americans struggle with, we would be better off.
"A deal being struck is a welcome development. The details of this deal have yet to emerge, but from what we've seen, the terms may make us weaker and further spotlight how senseless this war was from the beginning.
"This isn't the first time President Trump has claimed the war is over. We deserve to know more about the terms of the deal and what they mean for America and its allies in the long term. The President should heed the bipartisan calls for him to brief Congress and the American people. Negotiations must continue so we can finally bring an end to this self-imposed war."
