Newly-Shot Film And Soundtrack Arrive Oct. 17 On 'Nebraska '82: Expanded Edition' Box Set (Sony Music)

"Nebraska '82: Expanded Edition" arrives next month (Oct. 17) via Sony Music, and among the never-heard material on the box set is Bruce Springsteen's first ever performance of "Nebraska" in its entirety. Having never toured behind the initial album, Springsteen revisits these songs more than 40 years later - offering fresh insight through the subtleties of his live performance, while remaining true to the spirit of the original recordings. Shot without an audience, and with light accompaniment from Larry Campbell and Charlie Giordano, the film is presented without narration, commentary or dialogue. "Only the voices of the characters are heard," as Springsteen says.

Shot by Thom Zimny earlier this year at New Jersey's Count Basie Theatre, the performance will be available as both a Blu-Ray film and soundtrack album on the "Nebraska '82: Expanded Edition" box set. You can preview it today with Springsteen's "Open All Night (Live at Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, NJ)": https://brucespringsteen.lnk.to/OANVideo

"The one thing that we didn't do on the 'Nebraska' album was we didn't play it live, so my first thought when we were talking about celebrating the record was there's got to be a performance, singing these songs from top to bottom," Springsteen reflected. "What I was concerned about was getting some of the spooky quality the record had. We're lucky we got the great Larry Campbell and Charlie Giordano to assist in the very minimal instrumentation on the record, and Rob Lebret did a really nice job of mixing and maintaining the record's integrity on that level."

"As a filmmaker, you want to enhance the performance without it being noticeable - to step into that music and really try to be an invisible partner in it, and carry along this presentation,"added Zimny. "There's no introduction or explanation. Things just unfold. And that's the beauty of Bruce as a storyteller, of his writing and of this album."

In addition to the full album performance, "Nebraska '82: Expanded Edition" will include The E Street Band's fabled "Electric Nebraska" sessions, solo outtakes from the era and a 2025 remaster of the original album. Spanning across five discs, with an accompanying essay by Erik Flannigan, the collection will be available in both four-LP plus Blu-Ray and four-CD plus Blu-Ray configurations. "Nebraska '82: Expanded Edition" was announced earlier this month, with a previously-unreleased version of "Born in the U.S.A" - featuring Springsteen backed by Max Weinberg and Garry Tallent, in a trio rendition from late April 1982.
