Rep. Nicole La Ha appointed to Illinois Commission on Youth Sports

January 28, 2026

State Representative Nicole La Ha was appointed to the Illinois Commission on Youth Sports last week by Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie.

The Illinois Commission on Youth Sports was created to develop a strategic plan to ensure all young people have access to youth sports programs across Illinois. The commission is charged with submitting a yearly report with findings and recommendations for how to make youth sports more accessible to all young people.

"I look forward to participating in this Commission and providing a voice to common sense solutions about access to youth sports," said La Ha. "Regardless of income, zip code, and physical ability, children should have the opportunity to be part of a team, exercise, and have fun learning new skills. I look forward to contributing as both a legislator and as a mother of children who play sports in Illinois."

The Illinois Commission on Youth Sports was created by Public Act 104-222 and was signed into law on August 15, 2025. The Commission was billed as first in the nation to focus on quality and access in youth sports.

Appointees to the Commission, including Representative La Ha, serve without compensation for their participation. La Ha is the mother of two active school-aged children who play sports, and she participated in youth sports herself. The first report of the Commission will be due on December 31, 2026.

Nicole La Ha is proud to serve the 82nd District in the Illinois House in Springfield.
