Long Beach, CA-The Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) invites parents and caregivers and their children to the Early Learning Fair (ELF), a free and engaging event as part of LBPL's Dive into Learning program where families can explore early learning programs for children ages 0 to 5. The fair will take place Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library (5870 Atlantic Ave.).
"Our Early Learning Fair is a fun, engaging opportunity for families and caregivers to learn about our various resources and ways to support and inspire early learning," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "We encourage folks to come out to learn, have fun and connect with other parents and caregivers."
The event will kick off with a Dive to Learning presentation, where parents will learn about the Library's early learning programs. Other event highlights include Speech Therapy Storytime with Mika Storey, an interactive session on supporting children's speech development; an Early Math presentation, where attendees will discover fun and effective ways to foster early math skills in young learners; a Social and Emotional Learning workshop hosted by ChildNet, which focuses on strategies to support children's emotional well-being; and craft activities for families that will encourage parent-child bonding and creativity.
Registration is not required to attend. Families who visit all resource tables and attend at least one workshop will receive a Ready for Kindergarten backpack, while supplies last. Children must be present at the time of pick-up to receive their backpacks.
The Dive Into Learning program is an early learning initiative that supports early education for children ages 0 to 5 by incentivizing reading and providing school readiness and parent education workshops. To sign up, visit longbeach.beanstack.org, download the Beanstack Tracker App, or visit any Long Beach Public Library. Parents can also sign up during the Early Learning Fair.
The City also recently launched its second year of the Parent Informational Workshop series. The workshops, which are also part of LBPL's Dive Into Learning program, will offer parents and caregivers of children ages 0 to 5 years old an opportunity to learn about various topics, including speech and language development, managing behaviors and early start intervention. This initiative works to ensure Long Beach families experiencing developmental concerns about their child are connected to services in a timely manner.
