"Whether it's supporting adult learners, strengthening our coastal communities, helping people rebuild their lives after incarceration, or celebrating students preparing for careers in law and public service, these visits are a reminder that Delaware's strength comes from the people and organizations who show up every day for their neighbors," said Rep. McBride. "My job in Congress is to listen, partner, and make sure the federal government is helping those efforts succeed."

Supporting Disability Services and Community Partnerships

On Saturday morning, Rep. McBride participated in the opening ceremony of the Easterseals Delaware & Maryland's Eastern Shore Volleyball Challenge at the University of Delaware, joining community leaders and advocates to highlight the importance of services that support Delawareans with disabilities and seniors.

The annual event raises awareness and support for programs that provide home and community-based services for children and adults with disabilities across the state.

Rep. McBride emphasized the importance of protecting Medicaid-funded services and strengthening the workforce of direct support professionals who help ensure individuals with disabilities can live independently and thrive in their communities.

Celebrating Lifelong Learning

Later that day, Rep. McBride delivered the keynote address at the Delaware Association for Adult and Continuing Education (DAACE) Adult Education Literacy Summit, where educators, workforce leaders, and adult learners gathered to discuss the future of adult education in Delaware.

During her remarks, Rep. McBride highlighted the role of adult education in expanding economic opportunity and strengthening Delaware's workforce, noting that programs supporting GED attainment, literacy, and English language learning help workers advance in their careers and support their families.

Encouraging the Next Generation of Legal Leaders

Rep. McBride also served as a judge at the Delaware High School Mock Trial Finals in Wilmington, where students demonstrated their legal advocacy skills before members of Delaware's legal community.

The annual competition allows students to simulate real courtroom proceedings and gain firsthand experience in legal reasoning, public speaking, and civic engagement.

"Programs like mock trial help young people build confidence, sharpen their critical thinking skills, and deepen their understanding of our justice system," McBride said. "My own high school experience was shaped by my participation in mock trial, so it was especially meaningful to see the passion and talent of Delaware's next generation of leaders on display."

Meeting with Community and Education Leaders in Sussex County

Today, Rep. McBride traveled to Sussex County to meet with local leaders and organizations addressing key challenges facing the region.

In Georgetown, she met with The Way Home, a nonprofit organization that provides housing support, job placement assistance, and mentorship to individuals returning to the community after incarceration. The program works to reduce recidivism and help participants rebuild stable lives through employment and supportive services.

Rep. McBride also hosted a working lunch in Dewey Beach with mayors from several Delaware coastal communities-including Bethany Beach, Lewes, South Bethany, Henlopen Acres, and Dewey Beach-to discuss issues affecting the region, including coastal resilience, tourism management, infrastructure, and housing affordability.

She concluded the day in Lewes with a meeting with Cape Henlopen School District Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Nauman to discuss education priorities, including school infrastructure needs, enrollment growth in Sussex County, and strategies to support students and educators.

"Across Delaware-from Wilmington to Georgetown to the beaches-I'm continually inspired by the educators, advocates, and local leaders working to strengthen our communities," McBride said. "Conversations and partnerships with the neighbors is how we can ensure that federal policy supports the work already happening on the ground to build opportunity and stability for Delaware families."
