On this occasion, all individual and institutional members of ICOM are invited to follow the 41st General Assembly online, as well as an exceptional scientific programme dedicated to the theme "Museums Uniting the Divided World".
Watch the General Assembly live
The ICOM General Assembly will take place on 25 June 2026 and will be streamed live to enable members from around the world to participate in this key moment in the organisation's governance.
We strongly encourage all members to log in to follow the discussions, important decisions and exchanges that will help shape the future of ICOM.
The General Assembly will also feature a keynote address by Alexandra Xanthaki, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Cultural Rights, who will reflect on the ethical responsibilities and human rights obligations of cultural institutions in contemporary societies.
The scientific programme: insights into the challenges facing museums today
The scientific programme will bring together several leading figures from the museum and cultural sector, including Amareswar Galla, former Vice-President of ICOM, who will offer a historical reflection entitled Future Imperfect: Aspirational Museum Narratives.
Participants will also be able to attend a panel discussion on the rights of indigenous peoples and social inclusion in museums, moderated by Bruno Brulon Soares, with contributions from Michael Mel, Samba Yonga and Carolina Quintero Agamez. An intergenerational dialogue will also bring together Suzanne Cotter and Marion Bertin to discuss the transformations and contemporary challenges facing the museum sector.
The presentations and panels will be recorded and made available online after the event.
Celebrating 80 years of commitment to museums
The 2026 Annual Meetings are of particular significance as they form part of the 80th anniversary of ICOM. Since its creation in 1946, ICOM has brought together museums and heritage professionals around shared values of international cooperation, the protection of cultural heritage and the sharing of knowledge. This anniversary will be an opportunity to celebrate eight decades of commitment to the global museum community, whilst collectively reflecting on the challenges and opportunities that will shape the future of museums.
