Motorcyclist and Pickup Driver Fatally Injured in 2-Vehicle Collision

A motorcyclist and pickup truck driver were both fatally injured in Thursday's 9:15 a.m. two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Trousdale Drive and Briarwood Drive.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the rider of a BMW motorcycle, Nicholas Moralas Gomez, 22, was traveling north on Trousdale Drive when he entered the intersection and struck the driver's door of a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck. Gomez died at the scene. The driver of the pickup, Dale Clay, 37, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

Clay had been traveling east on Briarwood Drive when he proceeded into the intersection to make a turn and was struck by the motorcycle.

There were no signs of impairment at the scene. The motorcyclist had the right of way, but the investigation will also examine whether speed on the part of Gomez was a contributing factor.
