U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Michigan State Director Dom Restuccia today announced a $4,351,000 loan to improve water infrastructure for the Village of Chesaning in Saginaw County.
"A key piece of this project is to remove the lead components from Chesaning's water system, and this is just one example of many where have been able to do that," said Restuccia. "Under the leadership of President Donald Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, we are getting the lead out of rural water systems."
Chesaning will use the funds to repair and replace the aging components of the water-main infrastructure. Water service lines will also be replaced to eliminate any lead components as necessary throughout the project area. Rural Development funds will be partnered with a grant that the Village of Chesaning received from MDOT to replace the sidewalks that run concurrently to the watermain. This project will improve capacity, safety and reliability of the system and the 1,120 users currently on the system.
USDA is administering the funding through Rural Development's Water and Wastewater Environmental Programs . The Water and Wastewater Disposal program helps rural communities fund clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to rural households and businesses.
These investments strengthen critical community infrastructure, enhance quality of life, and help rural towns attract and retain businesses and services. Discover more investment details and historical data in the Rural Data Gateway and learn more about the agency at www.rd.usda.gov/mi .
