The City of Spokane, alongside regional partners and neighborhood leaders, will conduct a wildfire evacuation drill in the Grandview/Thorpe neighborhood on the morning of Saturday, May 3. While participants know the date and general time of day the exercise will be held, the exact timing will not be disclosed to help simulate the unpredictability of a real emergency.

This voluntary drill is an important opportunity for residents to practice evacuating safely and efficiently in a simulated wildfire scenario. Key objectives of the drill include:

  • Familiarizing residents with egress routes and safety protocols
  • Identifying and addressing potential hazards or obstacles along evacuation paths
  • Empowering the community to act quickly and confidently during a real emergency

The drill is being planned in coordination with the Grandview/Thorpe neighborhood, the City of Spokane Office of Emergency Management, Spokane Fire Department, Spokane Police Department, Spokane County Department of Emergency Management, and the Washington State Patrol.

While first responders are supporting the planning of the event, the drill is resident-focused and not intended to test first responders or simulate a full wildfire response.
