The safety and security of our community-whether you live, learn, work or visit here-is a top priority.
With higher education leaders' heightened attention to campus safety, Vanderbilt University Public Safety reminds all members of the Vanderbilt community about the importance of preparing for an active assailant situation. Taking time now to become familiar with Vanderbilt's prevention strategies and response guidelines is a crucial step in keeping our campus safe.
Vanderbilt provides resources to ensure our community has the tools to respond effectively. Training options are designed to be accessible and flexible, including a video presentation, written guidelines and in-person sessions for groups or departments. By completing training, community members gain a better understanding of AlertVUemergency messages, the VandySafeapp and practical steps they can take to respond decisively if confronted with an active assailant.
For students and faculty:
Students and faculty are strongly encouraged to review the university's active assailant training video, written guidelines and preparedness resources available on the VUPS website. These materials cover prevention, emergency communication and the "Run, Hide, Fight" response framework.
For staff:
Staff members can access the Oracle Learning course on active assailant response now and will automatically be enrolled on Thursday, Oct. 9. This course includes the active assailant training video and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Staff are encouraged to complete this training at their earliest convenience.
In-person training opportunities:
Departments, academic units, student groups and other campus organizations may also request in-person training sessions led by VUPS team members for their area. These sessions provide additional opportunities for questions and discussion. To schedule an in-person training session, contact VUPS via the VandySafe app or email [email protected].
A safe campus depends on all of us. By completing this training for active assailant situations, you help protect yourself while also supporting the safety of classmates, colleagues and the broader Vanderbilt community.
