FEMA Approves More Than $5.8 Million in Funding to Help Communities Recover from Recent Disasters and Strengthen Their Resilience Against Future Disasters in Vermont

Today, FEMA announced the approval of more than $5.8 million in funding for Public Assistance projects in Vermont. This program empowers states, local communities, tribes and territories to recover from disasters, rebuild safer and more resilient communities and protect infrastructure from future events. With this funding, President Donald J. Trump is keeping his promise to reform federal disaster support and ensure that taxpayer money is spent only on projects and programs that deliver safety and security to the American people.

FEMA disburses this money to states, tribes and territories, as they are best positioned to know how these funds will be most effectively spent. The funded projects include repairs to critical infrastructure, restoration of public buildings, road repairs and reimbursement for costs incurred to ensure public health and safety after a disaster.

The projects reimbursed through Public Assistance funding approved today are:

  • More than $2.4 million to the Town of Stockbridge for repairs to River Road, Laury Road and engineering services for the July 2023 flooding.
  • More than $700,000 to the Hardwick Electric Department to repair or replace damaged equipment from the July 2023 flooding.
  • More than $609,000 to the city of Montpelier for debris removal after the July 2023 flooding and road repairs after the August 2024 flooding.
  • More than $511,000 to the Vermont Electric COOP for repair or replacement of utility poles and transformers after the Oct. 31-Nov. 1, 2019 storms.
  • More than $457,000 to the town of Lyndon for road and culvert repairs after the July 2024 flooding.
  • More than $378,000 to the town of Sutton for repair or replacement of road surfaces, culverts, embankments, and bridges for the August 2024 storm.
  • Nearly $252,000 to the town of Burke for bridge repairs after the July 2024 flooding.
  • More than $225,000 to the town of Kirby for bridge and road repairs after the July 2024 flooding.
  • More than $175,000 to the town of Roxbury for management costs after the July 2023 flooding.
  • More than $128,000 to the town of Wolcott for repair or replacement of a culvert after the July 2024 flooding.

These awards are the latest example of billions of dollars provided by FEMA to support local communities as they work to rebuild from recent natural disasters.

FEMA continues its renewed commitment to support communities as they lead recovery from disasters like hurricanes, severe storms, tornadoes and wildfires while making themselves more resilient to future disasters.
