Sparks, Nev. - The Sparks Fire Department is teaming up with the Nevada Humane Society to host a communitywide pet food drive throughout May. Donation bins will be available at all six Sparks fire stations during daylight hours.
The drive aims to help the Nevada Humane Society meet critical needs by collecting essential supplies for animals in its care. Requested items include dry dog and cat food, high-quality dog treats (especially soft, meaty varieties), and canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling). Items that cannot be accepted include used blankets, bedding, comforters, or pillows.
Donors are asked not to park in front of the fire station's bay doors to ensure crews can quickly respond to emergencies.
Sparks Fire is also working with the Nevada Humane Society by using pet microchip scanners to help firefighters identify lost pets and reunite them with their owners.
Those who prefer to donate online may do so at nevadahumanesociety.org.
