Jeff Selingo, NYT best-selling author of “Dream School,” to speak on campus, Feb. 11

New York Times bestseller Jeff Selingo, author of "Dream School: Finding the College That's Right for You," will speak on what differentiates Marquette and how we can best connect with prospective students and families on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium.

Marquette was one of 75 schools spotlighted in "Dream School," which shifts the focus from how colleges pick students to how students can better pick colleges. Based on more than two years of research and a survey of some 3,000 parents, the book gives families permission to think more broadly about what signals a "good" college and provides tools to discover their dream school.

"With an 81% six-year graduation rate and average annual earnings of $76,417 10 years after enrollment, Marquette produces strong student outcomes compared to those of peer institutions," Selingo wrote in "Dream School." The book also notes Marquette's placement in the heart of Milwaukee and students' access to internship and job opportunities at major employers in the region.

The conversation and an audience-driven Q&A session will be moderated by Brian Troyer, vice president for enrollment management. Limited copies of "Dream School" and Selingo's prior bestseller, "Who Gets In and Why" will be available for purchase.

Selingo, a New York Times bestselling author of three books, has written about colleges and universities for more than two and a half decades. A regular contributor to The Atlantic, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal, Selingo is a special advisor to the president and professor of practice at Arizona State University. He also writes a bi-weekly newsletter on all things higher ed called Next and co-hosts the podcast, Future U. He is the former top editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education.

For more than 25 years, his in-depth reporting and storytelling have provided practical insight about the future of higher education and the workforce to university leaders, corporate executives, students and parents.

Selingo has talked before scores of colleges, businesses, healthcare organizations and financial services companies and helped leaders understand what's next for education and how companies can better compete for talent, especially among Gen Z. He has appeared at the Milken Global Institute, LinkedIn, Ohio State University, Salesforce, Spain's Bankinter Innovation Foundation, the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions, and Deloitte, as well as before the boards of Carnegie Mellon University, the Duke Endowment, and Amherst College, among others.

All faculty, staff and students are invited to the free event, which is sponsored by the Office of the President, Enrollment Management, and the Office of Marketing and Communication. No registration is required.
