LOS ANGELES - Yesterday, Mayor Karen Bass helped mark the start of Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling's $47.5 million revitalization project at its Downtown Los Angeles facility. The historic, cultural monument, known as "The Ship," will be improved and modernized ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The project contributes to Mayor Bass' continued efforts to aid in the ongoing revitalization of Downtown LA. B-roll can be found here.
"Los Angeles is an economic engine, connecting local businesses to the rest of the country and the world," said Mayor Bass. "Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling has decided to renew and expand on their investment in our city, continuing to support good paying jobs for Angelenos and playing an integral role in Downtown LA - another signal that Los Angeles is open for business."
"We are thrilled to mark the start of another chapter in our history in downtown Los Angeles," said David Carey, Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling Market Unit President - Los Angeles & Nevada. "As a long-standing beverage manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, we are proud of this great city. Today's investment demonstrates our commitment to Downtown Los Angeles and our confidence in our continued mutual success."
"Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling's investment is exactly the kind of partnership Downtown Los Angeles needs, one that honors our industrial legacy, sustains good union jobs, and drives new economic opportunity," said Councilmember Ysabel Jurado. "It reflects the momentum and boundless potential of our City's core, and our shared commitment to building a Los Angeles as resilient and determined as the people who power it."
As the last bottling facility in the City of Los Angeles, Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling continues Coca-Cola's legacy in Downtown Los Angeles, which began in 1902. In 1976, the "flagship" façade received historic cultural landmark status. This project is part of Downtown LA's ongoing revitalization as a vibrant hub of economic, cultural and civic life. Last week, Mayor Bass recognized Banc of Californiafor expanding their footprint Downtown by leasing an additional 40,000 square feet of office space and adding their signage to LA's historic skyline.
Last month, Mayor Bass joined elected officials, labor leaders and Downtown stakeholders to officially start the expansion and modernization of the LA Convention Center, following her signature of the City Council's motion to begin the project. Generating more than 15,000 jobs and attracting more than 150 million in additional visitor spending each year, a new and expanded Convention Center signals to the world that LA is ready to win and compete in the global tourism industry.
