With the scholarship, Patten will receive funding for her education in exchange for a commitment to practice in rural, urban, or tribal communities with limited access to care, following graduation and licensure. "I am extremely grateful to have received the scholarship and look forward to making a meaningful impact in underserved communities after graduation," Patten said.

Patten earned her undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and has several years of clinical experience as a registered dietitian working for Hackensack Meridian and RWJBarnabas hospitals.

"The faculty at the PA program are extremely proud of Emily for being awarded this scholarship and for committing to serving in areas where vulnerable patients have limited access to care. It is a true testament to Emily's character and what the PA profession stands for," said Program Director and Department Chair Pauline Papapietro, PA.
