NEWS: Sen. Schiff Hails More than $91 Million Secured for California Transit Funding Ahead of 2028 LA Olympic and Paralympic Games

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) touted more than $91 million in new federal funding for cities across California to make safety improvements and upgrades to transportation infrastructure and support transit operating expenses ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The funding is awarded through the FY26 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) bill.

"Los Angeles is a world class city and a venue like no other for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our work securing these important federal dollars will help deliver safe and efficient transportation for the millions of fans in town for the Games. I will continue working with my colleagues and the Federal Transit Administration to ensure a successful experience for the fans and athletes," said Senator Schiff.

The funding includes:

  • Nearly $90 million for Los Angeles
  • Over $1 million for surrounding cities supporting the Games, including San Jose, San Diego, and Mission Viejo

Background: Senator Schiff has been a strong champion for securing crucial funding to support the upcoming 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

Earlier this year, Senators Schiff and Alex Padilla announced that the Los Angeles region and the San Francisco Bay Area will receive a combined $18.4 million for transit costs associated with hosting World Cup matches this summer. The funding came from the FY2026 World Cup Public Transportation Formula Apportionment that Schiff and Padilla fought to include in the FY26 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies appropriations bill.
