The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its warnings issued for weeks to Italian citizens in Iran to leave the country and exercise cautioun throughout the region due to possible new military activities.
Specifically, following upon the meeting chaired at the end of January by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani after the outbreak of protests in Iran, non-essential staff at the Embassy in Tehran were sent back to Italy. Staff reductions have remained in effect since then, and travels of any kind are still discouraged: Italians present for tourism or whose presence is not strictly necessary are advised to leave the country.
Travels to Iraq of any kind are also discouraged, and non-essential travels to Lebanon are recommended to be postponed.
With specific reference to Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends all Italian nationals present in the country to exercise maximum caution and remain vigilant, staying informed about emergency procedures and the instructions of local authorities in their respective locations.
The security situation remains unstable at the regional level. The other Italian Embassies throughout the region remain on high alert and in constant contact with the Crisis Unit, with the shared goal of assisting Italians in need.
