THE RELEASE OF 23 MALAYSIAN PARTICIPANTS OF THE GLOBAL SUMUD
FLOTILLA FROM THE ISRAELI DETENTION
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to inform that all 23 Malaysians, who took part in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission, have been released by the Israeli authorities today, 4 October 2025.
The group departed Israel on Turkish Airlines flight TK6921 from Eilat, Israel at 1.40 p.m. (local time) and arrived in Istanbul, Türkiye at 3.40 p.m. (local time). All Malaysians are safe and in good health. They will remain in Istanbul for medical and health assessments before returning to Malaysia on either 5 or 6 October 2025.
The Ministry extends deepest appreciation to Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his decisive leadership, as well as his tireless efforts in securing the swift release of the detained Malaysians. Malaysia also thanks the Government of Türkiye for its pivotal facilitation and support, as well as the Governments of Jordan, Egypt, the United States, as well as ASEAN countries with a presence in Tel Aviv for their valuable assistance in ensuring the safe return of our citizens.
The Ministry also acknowledges the efforts of Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organization (MAPIM) and the Sumud Nusantara team, whose determination and spirit have highlighted Malaysia's solidarity with the people of Palestine. While the flotilla was prevented from reaching Gaza, the mission succeeded in raising further international awareness about the illegal blockade by the Israeli Zionist regime. The participation in the mission reaffirmed the commitment of Malaysians in standing for the Palestinian cause and in strongly opposing the on-going genocide, starvation, tragic humanitarian catastrophe and destruction in Gaza.
Malaysia will continue to work closely with its partners to ensure humanitarian efforts remain protected and that global solidarity for Palestine grows stronger.
